A New Beginning for Derrick Rose

Six years ago, it's the 2008 NBA Draft and all eyes are on the top draft prospects and especially the soon to be number one overall pick Derrick Rose. Out of the University of Memphis, Derrick Rose had an amazing college career where he was named the Conference USA Freshmen of the Year and it led him to the first pick to the Chicago Bulls. Rose got selected to the US Select Team for the Olympic team that competed in 2008 in Beijing.
Under coach Vinny Del Negro's system, Derrick Rose thrived and had an immediate impact on the Bulls becoming the first Bull since Michael Jordan to score 10 points in his first 10 games, he went on to win the Rookie of the Month Award in November, December and March. Rose continued to make waves in the NBA at All Star Weekend Rose became the first Rookie to ever win the Skills Challenge beating out Devin Harris, Mo Williams and Tony Parker. Rose went on to win rookie of the year by a landslide and the future was the brightest it could've been for the Bulls and it was only getting brighter.
Rose's 2009-10 was Derrick Rose's first All-Star season where Rose became the first Bull to be selected to an All-Star game since Michael Jordan in 1998. The Bulls finished with a 41-41 record and lost in five games to the Cleveland Cavaliers where Rose averaged 26.8 points and 7.2 assists. After Rose was knocked out of the playoffs by the Cavs, the NBA released that Derrick Rose had some of the highest jersey sales for an NBA Sophomore higher then Ray Allen, Steve Nash, Shaquille O'Neal, and Carmelo Anthony ranking 11th in the entire NBA.
2010-11 was Derrick Rose's best season in the NBA. His MVP season. Derrick Rose became the youngest player to win the MVP award at 23 years old. Rose set career highs in everything where he averaged 25 points per game, 7.7 assists per game and 4.1 rebounds. Rose beat out Lebron James, the winner of the past two MVP Awards and who had been the favorite to win coming into he season but Rose was able to just pull ahead in the final stretch of the season. Rose had been expected to do much more in the NBA, but this was soon put to rest in the next two seasons.
2011-12, Derrick Rose was having another great season, on pace to be an all star for the the third straight season until the dreaded ACL tear. The Bulls were up by 12 to the Philadelphia 76ers late in the fourth quarter, Coach Thibodeau has always known to overplay his players but in this case, it almost cost Rose an NBA career.  The injury left Derrick Rose out for the remainder of the season and the entire 2012-13 season leaving the Bulls without a superstar as they were left to fiend for themselves.
In the offseason of the 2013 season, "the return" of Derrick Rose was highly anticipated. Commercials and countless merchandise made it clear that Derrick Rose was coming back and he was going to come back with a bang. Rose played very well in preseason and expectations couldn't have been higher for the returning MVP yet, Rose only lasted 10 games before another injury. Rose wasn't playing at his best only averaging 15.9 points on 34% shooting. After extensive x-rays it was reported that Rose had a meniscus tear, a very common injury among players who often have the ball for their teams, JR Smith and Russel Westbrook also had these injuries. A meniscus tear is much easier to heal then an ACL tear but at this point, no injury is good for Derrick Rose.
Now its the 2014 offseason, and it's been an offseason of triumph and sorrow. Along with the Lebron James return and a Paul George injury nobody knows what will happen next. As some of the top players in the NBA joined to be apart of USA Basketball Training Camp, this was the first taste that we were able to see of Derrick Rose since his meniscus tear. Rose has been spectacular ever since he stepped on the court. "He has great balance and is shooting the ball great. I think he's been absolutely terrific" Said Coach K. In the Team USA scrimmage, Rose only had 8 points,  but shot 3/4 from the field and had great intensity throughout also, the game was cut short due to Paul George's injury. For the former MVP, things are only looking up at this point and it is truly, a new beginning.
