7/30/12 Recap

Last night, the Yankees and Freddy Garcia opened a 3-game set with Miguel Gonzalez and the Orioles. New York got on the board first as Eric Chavez hit an RBI single that scored Raul Ibanez in the bottom of the second. In the 3rd, Wilson Betemit tied the game with a solo shot for the O's. In the top of the fifth, former Met Omar Quintanilla hit a sacrifice fly that scored Betemit and give Baltimore a 2-1 lead. The next batter was Nick Markakis, and he hit a sac fly that scored Mark Reynolds and make it a 2-run game. In the bottom of the inning, Raul Ibanez got one of those runs back with a solo home run, and it was 3-2. In the top of the 7th, Boone Logan came into replace Freddy Garcia. Logan would face Nick Markakis with a runner on, and he doubled to bring home Quintanilla and would later score on an RBI single by JJ Hardy to make the game 5-2. In the bottom of the 7th, Eric Chavez hit a solo shot, and the next batter, Ichiro, hit his 100th career homer and his first as a Yankee. However, this was not enough as the Orioles took the victory 5-4.
The Mets were in San Francisco to open a 4-game series with the Giants. There was no score until the bottom of the 3rd when Marco Scutaro hit an RBI single that brought home Brandon Belt and made the score 1-0 Giants. In the 4th, New York got their first lead of the night with a 2-run double by Ronny Cedeno and made the score 2-1 Mets. In the bottom of the fifth, Melky Cabrera hit an RBI single that tied the game. After a fielder's choice and an RBI single, San Francisco scored 2 runs to take a 4-2 lead. In the top of the eighth, Scott Hairston hit a 2-run shot into left to tie the game. Later in the inning, Justin Turner hit an RBI double that scored Jason Bay to give New York the lead. Turner would later come around to score on a Rob Johnson single to make it a 2-run lead. However, in the 9th, the Mets' bullpen blew it again on RBI doubles by Buster Posey and Nate Schierholtz to tie the ballgame once again as this one went to extras. In the top of the 10th, Hairston hit his second homer of the night to make it a 1-run Met lead, and a squeeze play would score Bay to make it 2 runs. New York almost blew it again in the bottom of the inning giving up 1 run and then loading the bases with two out for Brandon Belt. Belt hit one deep to center back on the warning track, but Jordany Valdespin made a nice running catch to end the game as the Mets win 2 straight for the first time since the 1st half.

7/29/12 Recap

Yesterday, R.A. Dickey took the mound again vying for his 14th victory against the Diamondbacks. In the top of the first, the Mets got off to a quick start as David Wright doubled home Murphy and then came around to score on a Scott Hairston double to give R.A. a 2-0 lead before he ever took the mound. In the 5th, Hairston recorded his 2nd RBI of the day by singling home Wright, and it was 3-0 New York. In the 6th, Daniel Murphy singled, and Andres Torres came around to make it a 4-0 game. Dickey shut out Arizona until the bottom of the sixth when Paul Goldschmidt hit an RBI single that scored Aaron Hill to make it a 3-run affair. In the 8th, Josh Thole hit a soft fly ball into left that scored Torres and make the score 5-1 Mets. Dickey went 7 strong innings, allowing only that 1 run. Bobby Parnell came into close it out in the bottom of ninth successfully as the Mets took the 5-1 win.
Last night, the Yankees looked to take two out of three from Boston in a Sunday Night Showdown. In the top of the second, Ryan Sweeney knocked home 2 on an RBI double as the Sox took a 2-0 lead they would hold until the bottom of the seventh. In that inning, Russell Martin homered with no one on to make it a 1-run game and lined one up the middle to score Andruw Jones as this one went into extras. In the top of the tenth, Boston manager Bobby Valentine and pitcher Josh Beckett, who didn't even pitch last night, got thrown out arguing a call by the home-plate umpire. However, with a runner on the third in the 10th, Pedro Ciriaco hit a soft single to right that brought home the run and gave Boston a 3-2 extra-inning lead. In the bottom of the inning, Boston still hanging onto that lead, Ramiro Pena pinch ran for Nick Swisher with two out as Raul Ibanez stepped to the plate. On the 9th pitch of the at-bat, Ibanez struck out to end the game. The Red Sox go back to .500 and ready to start a 10-game homestand.

I LIKE IKE!

In what has been a miserable last 16 games for the Mets, losing 14 of those, Ike Davis has been one of the few bright spots for the club in that span. Since the middle of June, Ike has hit 15 of his club-leading 20 homers, which is also his career high. He hit 3 last night, 4 in his last 2 games, and 6 in his last 6. He had 13 total bases in that game last night, the second most ever by a Met. Ike had been having a nightmare season up until mid-June. He was hitting around .160 and had shown very little power. Everyone thought that they should send him down, but the Mets didn't (partially because of his gold glove defense) and that decision has paid off. Ike has caught fire every since then, raising his average to .216 with a very good 60 RBI. When you look at those numbers (20 bombs, 60 RBI) that would be considered a very good year in late July. Ike just needed time to re-adjust. He missed all of the 2011 season after May 10th, when he sustained an ankle injury which cost him the rest of the season after putting together an all star season through 36 games. He was hitting .304 with 7 HR and 25 RBI in those 36 games. When he was called up in 2010, it was clear the Mets had their 1st baseman of the future. In his rookie year of 2010 he hit .264 with 19 HR and 71 RBI, putting him near the top in all of the offensive numbers for rookies that season. Ike is starting play like the Ike we saw last year before the injury. He needed time to adjust back to major league pitching, and it took longer than he and Mets fans would have liked, but it did happen. When he first came up, I thought he had Prince Fielder written all over him, only with better defense. That is why he instantly became my favorite, well he actually became my favorite when he hit .480 in spring training. But right away I knew he was going to be a star! I also liked saying I Like Ike. Ike is again showing why he will be an all-star and a Met for his whole career!

HARVELOUS!

Matt Harvey was amazin' for the Mets in his debut... He was harvelous! He lived up to all the hype and that was just a glimpse of how good this kid is really going to be! He and Zack Wheeler will most likely be career Mets and I sure hope they are. Terry Collins compared his stuff to Justin Verlander and Stephen Strasburg! Those are 2 amazing pitchers. Here's to a long career for Matt Harvey with the Mets. He became the 1st player since 1900 to strike out 10+ and get 2 hits in his MLB debut. Unfortunately, Jon Niese couldn't continue that trend last night as the mets lost their 13th of 15 games. Even though Jon Niese struggled last night, I think he has shown a lot of positive signs this season and developed into one of the more reliable pitchers in the Mets rotation right now. They locked him up at the beginning of the year to a 5-year contract extension worth $25.5 million with team options for 2017 and 2018. They obviously think he is a key pitcher looking toward the future, and I would agree with that 100%. In my opinion, he has one of the best curveballs in all of baseball. The Mets were looking for more consistency out of him this season, and they have gotten that for the most part. I think he will be a good pitcher for them for a long time.

7/27/12 Recap

While most of us were watching the Olympic Opening Ceremony, there was baseball going on yesterday. Last night, the Yankees opened up a 3-game set with the Red Sox at The Stadium. With 2 out in the 1st, Dustin Pedroia homered into left field, and it was 1-0 Boston. In the bottom of the inning, New York got back 3 on a fielder's choice ground ball by Mark Teixeira and a 2-run bomb by Raul Ibanez to make it 3-1 Yanks. In the top of the 3rd, Carl Crawford homered to make it a 1-run ballgame at 3-2. Then Teixeira got his 2nd RBI of the night with sacrifice fly to score Derek Jeter, and it was 4-2 Yankees. There were 2 HR's in the fourth by Jarod Saltalamochia and Russel Martin with a 2-run shot to prove this game an early slugfest as New York lead 6-3. This was all the scoring until the bottom of the eighth when Curtis Granderson showed off his power factor, hitting a grand slam to put the game away as the Yankees took the victory 10-3.
The Mets, on the other hand were in Arizona for their second game against the Diamondbacks. New York scored first on an Ike Davis home run and an Andres Torres RBI single, and it was 2-0 Metropolitans. Then came a dreaded, 6-run bottom of the second for the D'Backs to make it a 6-2 game. The Mets would get 3 back in the very next inning on a David Wright homer, but Arizona prevailed and scored 5 more runs in the game to get the 11-5 victory as the Mets fall back to 4 games under the .500 mark.

7/26/12 Recap

Last night, Matt Harvey took a Major League mound for the first time at Chase Field as the Mets played game 1 of their 4-game set in Arizona. The Mets gave him an early lead on an RBI double by Scott Hairston to make the score 2-0 New York. In the bottom of the first, Harvey struck out the first batter he faced and then another for a total of 2 K's. In the top of the second, Harvey got his 1st ML at-bat and hit the 2-strike pitch over the centerfielder, Parra for a double. Matt would later single and finish the night 2 for 2. Piching in the 6th, Harvey got his 10th and 11th strikeout, setting the franchise record for strikeouts in a Major League debut and setting the modern-day record for most K's in a debt while going 2 for 2. The New York bullpen, which is the worst in the Bigs, got the last 9 outs of the game for the victory, a 3-1 win. It was the Mets' first win since the final game in Washington and their 2nd since the All-Star Break.

7/25/12 Recap

Yesterday, the Mets looked to take at least one game from the Nationals and avoid the sweep as the sent Jeremy Hefner to the mound. There was no score until the top of the second when Michael Moorse and Danny Espinosa went back-to-back on two solo home runs into right field. However, New York cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning as Ike Davis lined one over the right field wall, and it was 2-1 Washington. In the 4th, Danny Espinosa scored on a Sandy Lyon RBI fielder's choice to make it a 2-run game. Then, in the top of the seventh, Bryce Harper reached base, and then Adam LaRoche hit his 2nd homer of the series into the Pepsi Porch in right field, and it was a 4-run lead for the Nats. Nationals pitcher, Stephen Strasburg, was un-hitable, striking out 11 through 7 innings as Washington took the victory 5-2. The Mets fall to 4 games under .500 and are 1-8 after the All-Star break. Tomorrow, Met's No. 2 prospect Matt Harvey will make his long-awaited Majors debut in Arizona.
Yesterday, the Yankees looked to take the series in Seattle without their 3rd baseman, Alex Rodriguez, who will be out 6-8 weeks with a fractured hand. In the top of the first, Derek Jeter, batting in the 2 spot with Ichiro leading off, hit a solo home run, his eighth of the year, to give New York a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, an RBI walk and a fielder's choice brought in 2 runs to give the Mariners a 1-run lead. This was the score until the bottom of the eighth when the Yankees loaded the bases. Jayson Nix doubled home three runs to give the Yanks a 4-2 lead. A Russel Martin single would bring home another run for the 4th run of the inning as the final score was 5-2 Yankees. New York now has an 8-game lead over Baltimore and Tampa Bay in the American League East.

7/24/12 Recap

Last night, R.A. Dickey went for his league-leading 14th win of the year against the Nationals. In the bottom of the second, with Scott Hairston on 2nd, Ronny Cedeno singled home the runner, and it was 1-0 New York. Then in the 4th, Danny Espinosa doubled home Ryan Zimmerman to tie the game at 1. Then, it all fell apart for the Mets in the top of the sixth. First, Adam LaRoche hit a 2-run homer to make it 3-1, and then an RBI single to score 1 and a throwing error by Jason Bay scored another, and it was 5-1 Washington. The Mets would score 1 more run on another Jordany Valdespin pinch-hit home run to tie a franchise record for the most in a single season, but that was the final score as the Mets dropped another one 5-2. Dickey suffered just his second loss of the season, and just the first at home.
The Yankees were looking to clinch their 3-game series over the Mariners with their new acquisition of Ichiro. The game was tied 1-1 after 1 after 2 solo homers by Curtis Granderson and Michael Saunders. Then, two RBI singles in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1 Seattle. After Jeter was hit by a Felix Hernandez pitch in the top of the eighth, Mark Teixeira hit a sacrifice fly to bring him home, and the score was 3-2 Mariners. In the bottom of the eighth, Dustin Ackley hit a soft ground ball to third that brought home the runner to give Seattle a 4-2 lead which was the final score. Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez got the victory, but he he hit three batters. One of them was Alex Rodriguez who was hit in the hands and will be placed on the Disabled List.

Lucas Duda

I'm going to have to put my Duda shirt away for a while, as the Mets sent struggling Lucas duda down to AAA Buffalo today to make room for Matt Harvey. This move was really becoming more and more inevitable by the day. Duda has really been struggling big time and seems like he has lost some confidence.  Over the last month he is hitting .138 with one homerun, and combine that with his below average defense, that's not going to get the job done. Watching him the last few weeks, I started to question whether he was really a part of the future, and the Mets might be too. Of course he might just be going to find his swing, regain some confidence, and catch fire. We should all be wishing Duda nothing but the best in Buffalo... I still want to believe he's a big part of the future here at Citi Field. Great guy, go get 'em, brutha. He's clearly a good kid that works hard, he's just not getting the results. Collins says Duda was disappointed with the demotion but driven to make it back. Of course, there's also a possibility that the Mets no longer believe he is part of the future. They have a crowded outfield and lots of them are young and they need to decide which ones are long term options. There's guys like Valdespin, Nieuwenhuis, Baxter who's injured, Den Dekker who is in AAA, so they need to decide which ones will be here long term. The Tampa Bay Rays have always liked Duda, and while I do think Duda is part of the future for the Mets, I wouldn't be too shocked to see Duda moved to Tampa Bay at some point, as he could play his natural position of first base and DH there. They also sent down Pedro beato and recalled Manny Acosta.

7/23/12 Recap

Last night, the Nationals came into Queens to play the first the three against the Mets. In the top of the first, Bryce Harper went deep with a man on in his first at-bat in New York, and it was 2-0 Washington. This was the score until the bottom of the fourth with nobody on for David Wright who hit one into the Party City Deck in left-center to make it 2-1. In the 7th, Ike Davis hit one right down the right field line that hit the screen on the foul pole for a solo homer, and the game was tied at 2, and for the second time in 2 nights, the Mets headed for extra innings. In the 10th, with one on and nobody out for the Nats, a ball was hit right back to pitcher Tim Byrdak. He turned to second trying to turn 2, but when Ruben Tejada was catching Byrdak's throw, Steve Lombardozi slid right into Tejada's shin, which took him out. Tejada was okay, but there was then 2 on and none out. Two batters later, Bryce Harper came up and hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Washington with Harper's 3rd RBI of the night. After a Ryan Zimmerman double and then a Michael Moorse homer made it 8-2 which was the final score. The Mets are now 2 games under .500.
Last night in Seattle might've been the most awkward night in Seattle Mariners history as Ichiro played his first game as a Yankee, batting 8th and playing right field, which was in Seattle. He became just the 10th ever Japanese-born Yankee. In the third, wearing #31, Ichiro came up and got a standing ovation from his former fan base and then singled up the middle and stole a base, but he was stranded at 3rd base. With the score 1-0 Mariners in the top of the fourth, Mark Teixeira hit an RBI double, and both Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones hit RBI singles to make it 3-1 New York. In the 8th, Alex Rodriguez hit a solo bomb to center field, and it was 4-1. In the 9th, former Mariner Rafael Soriano came on to get the save, and with former Yankee Jesus Montero batting, he flew out to former Mariner Ichiro, and 4-1 was the final score. The newest Yankee was 1 for 4 with a stolen base in his New York debut.

"WHOA! Talk About BLOCKBUSTER!!!"

Today was one of the most interesting days in recent NY Sports history as there were 2 huge trade that may help bring in 2 more championships to the Big Apple. First, Ichiro's days as a Seattle Mariner are over as M's acquired 2 prospects from the Yankees for right fielder Ichiro Suzuki as the trade deadline comes closer. The 2 prospects that Seattle got were right-handed pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar. For Ichiro, however, will have to part with the only team he's known since coming from Japan in 2001, and he'll have to face them tonight as, ironically, the Yanks try to end their 4-game skid tonight in Seattle.
The other huge trade has been one long awaited. Today, the New York Rangers have officially traded forwards Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Aninsimov, and defenseman Tim Erixon plus a 2013 first-round draft pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward Rick Nash and a third-round pick. New York GM Glen Sather, who made some very important trades to help the Rangers win the Stanley Cup in 1994, was quoted saying "We're very happy to have a 5-time All-Star on our team and a 40-goal scorer and a guy that's only 28-years old." For the Rangers, it came at a hefty price, but it most certainly seems to be the right deal that could be seen by the small amount of goals the Rangers scored during the playoffs last year. This is exactly what the Blueshirts need.
In Mets news, it's been announced that Matt Harvey will make his long-awaited ML debut on Thursday in Arizona in place of Johan Santana, who's on the DL. Harvey's been shaking in his last three starts, but he is the Mets' #2 prospect.

Rick Nash

Although I'm a diehard Devils fan, always have been and always will be, I do root for the Rangers because they're everyone in my family's favorite team besides me. Whenever their game doesn't impact the Devs, I root for them. This Nash trade was brilliant! They will win the East, as much as I would love for the Devs to repeat. The Rangers are now, in my opinion, favorites to win the Cup. They got Nash for the perfect trade for New York. They only gave up Anisimov, Dubisnky, Erixon (who's a prospect), and a 1st rounder. What a bargain for the Rangers! They were able to keep their main young guys like Stepan, Hagelin, Kreider, Del Zotto, and McDonagh. Adding a guy like Nash, who is a 5-time all star, makes them the most talented team in the NHL. Adding Nash to a team that already has guys like Gaborik, Richards, Callahan, and all the young guys I mentioned before makes them Cup favorites. They also have the best goalie in the world, yes better than Quick, in Henrik Lundqvist. There's not a team out there that is better on paper than the Rangers. But still, LETS GO DEVILS!

7/22/12 Recap

Yesterday afternoon, the Mets looked to avoid the sweep against the LA Dodgers, but the real excitement didn't come until the bottom of the ninth. With a runner on 3rd and 1 out, Ike Davis came through with an RBI groundout to tie the game. There was no scoring until the top of the twelfth, with the bases loaded and two men out, Matt Treanor singled up the middle to bring home 2 runs to give the Dodgers a lead they would hold on to as they would score 3 more runs and take the victory 8-3. New York falls to under .500 for the first time since the 162nd game of last season with a victory over the Reds. However, Atlanta got murdered by the Nationals yesterday, so the Mets remain only 5 games back of the 2nd Wild Card.
The Yankees yesterday were also looking to avoid a sweep against the "Moneyball 2" Oakland A's. There was no scoring until the top of the third when Mark Teixeira singled home Dewayne Wise, and the next batter Alex Rodriguez doubled in Chris Stewart and Curtis Granderson, and it was quickly 3-0 New York. Then in the top of the fourth, Granderson scored his 2nd run of the game with one swing, a solo shot into right to give the Yanks a 4-0 lead. Both Brandon Inge and Kurt Suzuki sit solo homers for the A's in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Yankee lead in half. The score became 4-3 in the sixth when Yoenis Cespedes scored on an Inge groundout. This was all until the bottom of the ninth when Seth Smith hit a solo shot to tie the game, and this game was going to extras as well. Then in the bottom of the twelfth, with Derek Norris on 2nd, Coco Crisp singled into right to bring home Norris, and the A's swept the New York Yankees. New York's AL East division lead is now down to 6 games with a Baltimore victory yesterday, and the surprisingly competitive Oakland Athletics are now in a tie with the Baltimore Orioles for the AL's 2nd Wild Card.

What is happening in Oakland?

The Oakland A's are having a magical year. Even though I'm a Mets fan, everyone should root for this team! The teams I root for are the Rays, Rangers, Orioles, and A's. I have always loved the Rays since their magical year in 08 when I came to love Evan Longoria. I love the Rangers because of Hamilton and I love the O's because they have the best logo in baseball. Then there's the swinging A's. I've always had a soft spot for the A's. They're a lot like the Rays without the recent success. They both somehow succeed with low payrolls. The A's are having a magical season this year. They are currently tied with the Angels and if LA loses tonight to Texas, Oakland will go ahead of them in the AL wild card chase. Oakland, LA and Baltimore are currently tied for the AL wild card lead with identical records. Of course, the MLB expanded the wild card to 2 teams this year. They are having an amazing season after trading 3 of their best players from last season: Trevor Cahill, Gio Gonzalez, and Andrew Bailey. 2 guys that they got in those trades, Josh Reddick and Tom Milone are 2 reasons why they've had such a good year thus far. Those guys along with others like Jemile Weeks, Coco Crisp, Yoenis Cespedes and mid-season pickup Brandon Inge have made for a season worthy of a Moneyball sequel. Also, Bailey's replacement Ryan Cook has had an unbelievable rookie season, earning him a spot on the all star team as the A's only representative, although Reddick was snubbed in not getting chosen. None of the players on this team are paid a whole lot of money, but still, just like in 2002, Billy Beane has put together another A's team using his own crazy yet brilliant strategies that might be able to lead the A's back to the playoffs. This team's payroll is only 55,372,500. That's microscopic! The Yankees' payroll is $197,962,289Now i just wish they could get a new stadium so that their fans could come and witness this team make a magical push for October. They already have 11 walkoffs this season which leads the MLB, including 1 today against the best team in baseball, the Yankees. Today's win was the 4th win of a 4 game sweep against New York. Only 1 question can be asked: What is happening in Oakland?

Harvey is here!

The Mets announced that Matt Harvey will be placed on the taxi squad Monday, activated Tuesday, and then start on Thursday in Arizona. Many fans, including me, have been anticipating this day for a long time. We all knew it was going to come soon, and our 23 year old prospect will finally make his debut. Harvey was the 7th overall pick back in the 2010 draft. Many fans thought he should have started yesterday for the team instead of Miguel Batista, but was not chosen by GM Sandy Alderson. Obviously, that might have been the wrong decision because Batista pitched 3 innings and was ineffective. He was later designated for assignment. It is clear that this Mets team has lost some confidence, but with their #2 prospect coming up, he might be able to provide a shot in the arm for this team. Harvey is 7-5 this year with a 3.68 ERA in AAA this year to go with 112 strikeouts in 110 innings pitched. Young players can always provide a spark to a struggling ball club, especially if they can perform well. Harvey along with Zack Wheeler are 2 pitching prospects that are looked at as future aces for this club and the 2 missing pieces that they need to make the playoffs. With Harvey getting the call and Wheeler not far away, it looks like the future is almost here for the Mets. These 2 guys are looked at as ace potential guys and are almost certainly going to be able to bring the Mets back to October and re-establish them as a very, very good team for the next decade.

YA GOTTA BELIEVE!

Although they fell below .500 for the 1st time all season today, I still believe in this team! No one expected us to be over .500 at all this year, and to be over for the entire season until late July is very impressive. The best team in baseball, the Yankees, were under .500 this year! This team has exceeded everyone's expectations and had an amazin' first half and they will not let all that hard work and excitement go down the drain in a 2 week slump. They also have Terry Collins, who has done an outstanding job as manager of this team, getting the most of his players. Please Mets fans, don't give up on this season! They can comeback and make the playoffs, and even if they don't, they have had a magical season and have shown that the fans have reason to believe and look forward to the future. Guys like Valdespin, Murphy, Ike, Tejada, Wright, Johan, Niese, and Dickey have made this season awesome! And when you look back at those names, all of them except Johan and Dickey are young and not even in their prime yet, except Wright who is in his prime. Wheeler and Harvey are 2 players that could make us a playoff team. It won't be long before the Mets are back in October. Despite the extremely bright future that we have, don't give up on this season! The reason the Mets had such success was how close their clubhouse was and how they all pulled for each other and just wanted to help the team win. The guys in that clubhouse are still there. They've hit a rough patch, but I still believe in this season, and so should you Mets fans! Look at teams like the A's and O's, they were in the same position we were at the beginning of the year. They both started hot, hit a rough patch, and now are both in the playoff picture and have been doing great lately. This is just another reason why YA GOTTA BELIEVE!

7/21/12 Recap

Yesterday afternoon, the Mets put on their special black jerseys in Game 2 of their series against the Dodgers. In the top of the third, with Miguel Batista pitching, Juan Uribe hit a 2-run double to make it 3-0 LA, and he would score on the next play. In the bottom of the eighth, with Scott Hairston on 1st, Daniel Murphy tripled into the left field gap and would later score on a groundout. In the ninth, with the score 6-5, R.A. Dickey came into pitch to get some work in. With a runner on, up came Juan Uribe and into the Party City Deck went Dickey's knuckleball, and it was 8-5 which was the final score. New York falls to .500 for the first time they were 13-13. In other news, Johan Santana was placed on the 15-day DL because of his ankle. For more on this story, go to Sports Blog.
Last night, the Yankees looked for a win against the red-hot Oakland A's. The Yankees got on the board first with an RBI single by Raul Ibanez in the top of the first to score Alex Rodriguez, and it was 1-0 New York. In the bottom of the inning, Yoenis Cespedes hit a tape-measure solo shot into left, his 2nd homer in as many games, and it was 1-1. This was all the scoring until the bottom of the eighth, when Brandon Inge hit a solo shot, and it was 2-1 Oakland, the final score. The Yankees have lost three straight, and Robinson Cano's 23-game hitting streak was snapped. Meanwhile, the Athletics are now in a three-way tie for the AL's 2nd Wild Card.

7/20/12 Recap

Last night, the Mets sent Johan Santana to the mound against the Dodgers, who he's 5-0 against in his career. With a runner on in the first, Matt Kemp did it again, going deep to make it 2-0 LA. With the  score 4-2 in the top of the third, young Luis Cruz hit his first career home run with a runner on, and it was now 6-2. Santana was taken out of in the 3rd for his shortest outing of the year. Then came the bottom of the eighth, the score 7-4, when Jordany Valdespin came up to pinch-hit with a man on, and he homered to left for his 4th pinch-hit home run of the year, and it was 7-6. However, this would be the final score as the Dodgers took the victory on Johan's blemish.
In Oakland, the Yankees took on starter Tommy Milone and the Athletics. The A's scored two runs early on, and that was all Milone would need. He went 7 scoreless innings. After a Russell Martin homer in the 8th, the score was 2-1 going into the 9th, and in the top of the ninth, Robinson Cano extended his hitting streak to 23 games with a solo blast, and it was 2-2 going into the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, with Yoenis Cespedes on 2nd, Brandon Moss came up to the plate and singled home Cespedes, and the A's won 3-2. The Yankees streak of 43 games of scoring 3 or more runs is over.

Johan

Johan Santana was placed on the DL with an ankle injury as his struggles continue as the Mets fall to the Dodgers. Ever since Johan threw that magical no-hitter, Johan has pitched like a pitcher who just came off huge shoulder surgery. It is obvious that he is tiring in the 2nd half.
He also looks like he has lost some confidence as he has been much less aggressive as the Mets would like. He has allowed 6 or more runs in 3 straight starts and looks like he is afraid to attack the strike zone.
Johan has made 8 starts since the no-hitter and in those games he is 3-5 with a 6.54 ERA. He threw 134 pitches in that no-hitter, which was a career high for him. Terry Collins gave him 2 extra days after the no-no, and he hasn't been the same since. After the no-hitter Johan's ERA was a microscopic 2.38, but it has skyrocketed to 3.98.
One things for sure, the Mets are going to need Johan to return to form if they are to stay in the race for a wild spot. With Johan now on the DL, it is most certainly time for Matt Harvey!

7/19/12 Recap

Yesterday afternoon, the Mets looked to take at least one game in their 3-game series in Washington. They got off to a good start against Gio Gonzalez as with Toress on 1st, David Wright hit a blast into left, and the score was 2-0 Mets. In the 2nd, Ike Davis homered to center to make it 3-1 New York. The Mets would continue scoring until Wright came up again in the fourth, and he smashed one just over the centerfield wall, and it was quickly 9-1 Mets. Washington would threaten in the bottom of the 8th, and Mets starter R.A. Dickey was taken out after 7 2/3 innings of only 3 earned runs. The Mets would get out of the jam and go on to win 9-3. Dickey would get the victory, his 13th of the year, tying Tampa Bay's David Price for the most in the Majors.
As most of us were going to bed here in the east, the Yankees were just getting started in Oakland against the A's. In the bottom of the first, Yoenis Cespedes hit a bomb into left with a runner on off of Freddy Garcia to make it 2-0 Athletics. Later in the inning, Oakland would score two more runs on an RBI single, and it was quickly 4-0. In the 3rd, Robinson Cano singled to extend his hit streak to 22 games. The next batter was Nick Swisher, and he hit a 2-RBI single to cut the lead in half. This was all the scoring until the top of the ninth when Nick Swisher homered to make it 4-3. With this homer, the Yanks made it 43 consecutive games of scoring 3 or more runs. This would not be enough though as the A's take the first game of the 4-game set and remain only a 1/2 game back of the AL's 2nd Wild Card.

Batista's a Believer!!!

Recently, Mets reliever Miguel Batista was asked about the his team's recent poor play, and he said  that everyone goes through a bad streak, and his team has to believe they can contend. Batista went on to say that, at their best, they are the, "best team in baseball." First of all, I want to say that when the Mets are at their best, they can compete with anyone in baseball. Also, I am absolutely loving Batista's attitude. Back in the mid-summer of 1973, the Mets were basically out of the race for the NL East. But reliever Tug McGraw was always shouting from the bench, "Ya gotta believe!" Down the stretch, the Mets played their best baseball of the year and went on to win the division and the pennant, losing the World Series to the Oakland A's. It was McGraw's consistent, positive attitude that influenced this great comeback, and I am happy that Miguel Batista has stepped up as the Tug McGraw of this Mets club!

Stars shine for Mets in must-win game

The Mets won today 9-5 against the first place Nationals in a game that they absolutely needed to have!  If they lost they would have fallen back to .500 for the 1st time in a very, very long time. They got huge performances from all stars RA Dickey and David Wright, as well as equally productive games from potential future all stars Ike Davis and Ruben Tejada. RA Dickey went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 earned runs but really pitched better than that stat line shows. He improved to an MLB best 13-1. Ike Davis went 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBI and Ruben Tejada went 2-5 with 1 RBI. The biggest and most important performance though came from de facto captain David Wright. David was 2-4 with two homers and 5 RBI. He is an absolute star! The Mets need to sign him long-term now. They cannot let him leave no matter the circumstance. He is no doubt a top 3 3rd basemen in baseball, which is a premier position. He is a fan favorite and amazing person and an even better player. Letting a player as important to the Mets franchise as he is would be crushing to an already diminishing fan base. Losing David Wright would wipe out half the fan base they still have. This team is fun to watch and they are beginning to get fans back, and letting Wright go would ruin it all. He is the main piece that this franchise is building around as they look towards the future. This team is only a few years away from a world series championship and letting Wright go would set them back 5-10 years. They must get him resigned by all means necessary!

7/18/12 Recap

Yesterday, the Yankees were looking for the sweep of division-rival Toronto. In the bottom of the first, Nick Swisher hit an RBI single to make it 1-0 New York. The very next batter was Mark Teixeira, and he homered to deep right field, and it was quickly 3-0 Yankees. The Bombers would score 3 more runs before the game was rain-shortened after 6 1/2 innings, and the Yankees won 6-1, sweeping the Jays and continuing a strong 3-game winning streak. During this game, Robinson Cano extended his 21-game hitting streak, and he has a .402 average during his streak.
Before I start the Mets recap, let me point out the obvious: the bullpen blew it again, and the Mets would've won it if it wasn't for the 'pen. There was no scoring until the bottom of the sixth, when Adam Laroche homered off of Mets starter, Chris Young, and it was 1-0 Nats. Bullpen pitcher, Miguel Batista, came in in the bottom of the 7th with the score 2-1 Washington, and he gave up a 2-run double to make it 4-1. In the top of the ninth, David Wright hit a 2-out solo shot. Wright's 12th home run of the year, and it was 4-2. The next batter was Jason Bay, and he homered off the foul pole, and just like that, it was 4-3. Then came up Jordany Valdespin, who homered in the 9th the night before, and he ended up striking out against Tyler Clippard to give the Nationals the win 4-3. The loss for the Mets, of course, went to Miguel Batista, the lone pitcher from the bullpen for New York lat night.

Bullpen blows it again, Harvey, and Spinsanity

The Mets took the lead in the 9th inning last night on a 3-run homer by Jordany Valdespin for a 3-2 lead. The Mets blew it in the 9th, went ahead in the 10th, and blew it and lost it in the bottom of the 10th on a walkoff wild pitch by Pedro Beato. This game was like deja vu... When they played their 1st game in DC this year, they came from behind to take the lead in the 8th only to blow it, along with blowing leads they had in the 10th and 12th eventually to lost it in the 12th on a walkoff hit to Bryce Harper. The bullpen is a liability for this team. I don't trust anyone coming out of the pen. They can't get people out. This is why Matt Harvey needs to be called up. Yeah he might have control issues, but what young pitcher doesn't? He will have control issues in the minors and the majors, but the difference is he can help out the big league club when they desperately need it. Not only will he provide a spark, but he will allow Batista to stay in the bullpen, as he is 1 of the relievers I almost trust. They need to make a move! Please go out and get Huston Street! He is one of the best relievers in the league and we desperately need him, and wouldn't have to give up a top prospect to get him. Anyway, how clutch is Jordany Valdespin? He is the man right now! That is his 2nd go ahead pinch hit homer in the 9th inning this year! He is a catalyst! They pinch hit him for Jason Bay! Jason Bay needs to sit on the bench! Please Spinsanity needs to play everyday in left field! He has done so well this year and is obviously a big part in this team's future! He could potentially be part of the core that eventually wins this team a championship! He needs to start everyday! He plays great defense in LF as well! He provides a spark that, dare I say, Jose Reyes provided last year. He is far better than Bay and provides more energy! He needs to start everyday except when they face a tough lefty... Every time he comes up to the big club he just impresses me every time. I'm not trying to compare him to anyone, but his swing reminds me a lot of Robinson Cano's. They are both just easy going, beautiful swings!

7/17/12 Recap

Last night, the Mets sent Jon Niese to the mound in Washington, and it was a wild one. The Nationals were ahead 2-0 in the top of the ninth, and it looked like New York was ready to lose their fifth straight. But with two on and 1 out, Jordany Valdespin hit a pinch-hit 3-run homer to make it 3-2 Metropolitans. Bobby Parnell came in to try and close it out, but with runners on 1st and 3rd and 2 out. Danny Espinosa hit a 2-strike pitch up the middle to tie the game. In the 10th, Josh Thole hit an RBI double to score Daniel Murphy and make it 4-3 New York. With a runner on 2nd in the bottom of the tenth, Bryce Harper hit an RBI triple to tie the game at 4. Mets manager, Terry Collins, elected to intentionally walk the bases loaded for Ian Desmond, who grounded into a fielder's choice at the plate. Pedro Beato came into pitch, but during the first batter he faced, he threw a wild pitch that scored Ryan Zimmerman, and the Nats took the victory 5-4, who are now 2-0 against the Mets in extras.
The Yankees were looking to take game 2 in their series against Toronto. In the second with two on and no one out, Andruw Jones hit a 3-run homer into left to make it 3-0 Bombers. In the 7th, there were RBI doubles from Chris Stewart and Derek Jeter and an RBI on a fielder's choice from Alex Rodriguez made it 6-0. In the top of the ninth, the Blue Jays got a run on a sacrifice fly, making the score 6-1. But then Rafeal Soriano came in to get the save for a 6-1 Yankee win. Sabathia is now 8-0 in his last 10 starts against the Jays.

7/16/12 Recap

Last night, Phil Hughes took the mound for the Yankees as they opened a series with the Toronto Blue Jays. Russel Martin's solo home run and Robinson Cano's RBI double were all the scoring for New York through 7 1/2 innings as the game was tied at 2 going into the bottom of the eighth. However, it wouldn't stay like this for long as with the bases loaded in the 8th, Raul Ibanez smashed a 3-1 changeup into the second deck in right field to make the score 6-2 with 1 inning left to play. The Jays scored one in the 9th, but then Rafeal Soriano came in to get another save, and the Yanks won 6-3. Tomorrow, CC Sabathia will make his first start since going on the DL late last month.
In Mets news, Matt Harvey started against the Toledo Mud Hens on Monday in front of all of Mets Nation on SNY. New York's No. 2 prospect had a no-decision, allowing 2 earned runs through 6 2/3 innings of work as Buffalo suffered a 4-2 defeat to Toledo. Harvey allowed 4 walks with 4 strikeouts and did not allow a hit until the 6th inning. It was a strong start for Harvey, and chances are it was his last start as a Minor Leaguer as he will probably make his Major League debut Saturday against the Dodgers.

7/15/12 Recap

Yesterday, in Atlanta, Ben Sheets made his Braves debut against Johan Santana. There was no scoring until the bottom of the fifth. with a runner on and 2 outs, Johan had his batter in a 2-2 count and threw a pitch on the outside corner that could've gone either way, but CB Buckner called it a ball, and Santana ended up walking him. With the next batter, the count was 1-2, and Santana threw the same pitch, which was called a ball. This batter eventually hit a single. The next batter was Freddie Freeman, and he hit one into the right field seats to cap off a 6-run 5th. The Mets would eventually get on the board with an RBI single by Andres Torres, but that would be it as the Braves take this game 6-1 and sweep the Mets in this 3-game weekend series. Ben Sheets won his first Major League game since 2010.
The Yankees went for the sweep against Anaheim, but New York starter Ivan Nova gave up 2 HR's in the 1st inning to Eric Aybar and King Albert Pujols. In the next 7 1/2 innings, this game would prove to be a slugfest as the score was 9-5 going into the 9th. In the top of the ninth, Mark Trumbo provided again, hitting another Trumbomb to give LA a 10-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth. With Robby Cano on base, Mark Teixeira hit one that was next seen over the right field wall that made the score 10-7. The Yanks loaded the bases but had 2 men out as Curtis Granderson, who had already homered that day, walked to the plate, needing another to win the game. Granderson ended up walking to bring in a run to make the score 10-8. Then up came Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod had already homered that day, and he needed one more grand slam to pass Lou Gehrig for the most all-time. Rodriguez popped out to the 1st baseman Albert Pujols, and the Angels avoid a 3-game sweep and win this one 10-8.

Rick Nash

Recently, there has been much talk about the Columbus Blue Jackets trading star forward Rick Nash. However, Jackets General Manager Scott Howson said in a recent statement that the Columbus organization wanted "an established NHL forward(s)"in any possible trade for Rick Nash. One of the main teams in the talk for Nash is the New York Rangers. New York has talked about trading left wing Brandon Dubinsky, who had an off-season in 2012, and defenseman Michael Del Zotto, who of course is now out of the question. Of course, Dubinsky isn't the best forward in the NHL, so the Blueshirts would have to give up another forward. I would hate to see it happen, but the Rangers may give up Mike Rupp. Rupp had a great season with New York last year having the best year of all the Ranger "goons." He most certainly came up in the clutch, scoring 2 important goals against Philadelphia in last year's Winter Classic. However, he is definitely an established forward, playing a big part in the Devils Stanley Cup run of 2003. It may come at a big price, but New York needs a scorer like Nash, which they proved in the playoffs last season, only scoring 46 goals in 20 games. Overall, it may be a good idea to add Mike Rupp in the Nash-Dubinsky trade.

7/14/12 Recap

Yesterday, the Yankees continued their 3-game affair with the Angels as Freddy Garcia allowed a 2-run single by Alberto Callapso in the 1st. In the bottom of the first, with Jeter on second, Robinson Cano homers off the wall in front of the bullpen in left-center to tie the game at 2. In the 3rd, Curtis Granderson smashes a 2-run homer into the second deck in right field which gave the Yankees a 4-2 lead. A few innings later, the score already 4-3, Robinson Cano delivered again with an RBI single that scores Alex Rodriguez to make it 5-3 which was the final score. Freddy Garcia is now 9-1 in 16 career starts against Anaheim. Today, Jared Weaver goes for the Angels against New York's Ivan Nova.
The Mets sent knuckleballer R.A. Dickey to the mound in Atlanta, where his only loss this season came, to try and even their weekend series with the Braves. Both teams gave up 3 runs in the first 4 1/2 innings, but in the bottom of the 5th, there was a most controversial play: with Jason Heyward on first, Martin Prado lined one into shallow left. Jordanny Valdespin tried to make a sliding catch, but he tracked the ball. One umpire called Prado safe, but another called him out. Thinking that Prado was out, Heyward turned back from second and starting going back to first. Valdespin threw the ball to 1st baseman Ike Davis, and Davis both stepped on the bag and tagged Heyward, thinking they got the double play. The umpires got together and ruled both runners safe. The nest batter was Freddie Freeman who doubled in 2 runs to give Atlanta a 5-3 lead. The next inning, the Mets laced together 6 hits and took a 7-5 lead. It stayed this way until the bottom of the eighth when Mets fire-baller Bobby Parnell allowed 3 runs to give the Braves the lead as Craig Kimbrell got the 3-out save to give Atlanta an 8-7 comeback victory. R. A. Dickey is 1-1 against Atlanta this season with an ERA of 8.80. However, he is 11-0 against every other team he has faced.

Giants 2012 Season Preview

With the 2012 NFL season around the corner, here is a look at the Giants' schedule and their chances in each game.

DIVISION OPPONENTS: Dallas Cowboys- The Giants were 2-0 last season against "America's Team", one game in Texas that was won on a Pierre-Paul deflection, and the other in NJ that sent New York to a successful playoff run. The Giants' offense seems to step it up when they play Dallas, and the Cowboy defensive line needs to start playing defense as they have to start tackling Manning if they want to start beating him. Overall, I think history will repeat itself when it comes to the Manning-Romo affair.
Philadelphia Eagles- Personally, I have never been a fan of DeSean Jackson's attitude, and that just adds on to how much I dislike all Philadelphia teams. Michael Vick is going to try to play every game this season, which I think is a bad idea due to his injury. With Vick not doing well, the Eagle clubhouse will probably begin to have some problems. I think this distraction will help the G-Men win at least 1 of their 2 games against Philly this year.
Washington Redskins- RG3 might have won the Heizman Trophy, but he hasn't played a single NFL game yet, so this category was pretty tough to predict. Last season the Redskins took both of their meetings against New York. With a young new QB like Smith, it may take a season for Washington to pull it all together. Because of this, I think the Giants and Redskins will split their 2-game series.

NFC SOUTH: Atlanta Falcons- Last season, the only times these two teams met were in the Wild Card Game and the Big Blue had Big Domination. The only meeting between them will be back at MetLife Stadium which I think will bring a carry-over effect to the matchup. I think this game will be another dominated by the Jints!
Tampa Bay Buccaneers- It's been quite a while since these two teams met, 2008 to be exact, so the Bucs haven't really had a look at this offensive power-house squad. Because of this, I think the Giants will dominate again!!!
Carolina Panthers- The entire NFC South is tough to predict, as there aren't many household names from that division. My only past relevant head-to-head evidence was last preseason, a Carolina victory. Plus, the Panthers will be home for this one. For these reasons, I believe this one will be a close game won by the Panthers.
New Orleans Saints- These two playoff-contenders met last season in Louisiana, and it was New Orleans domination. Although this year's game will be in East Rutherford, Drew Brees will feel invincible with all the money he now has in his pocket. This one will probably be another Saint win.

AFC NORTH: Cleveland Browns- The Browns are another team that does not have many big names, and are probably not accustomed to how quickly the Giant's offensive game can erupt. This one will probably be a New York victory in Cleveland.
Pittsburgh Steelers- Big Ben and the Steelers had a disappointing end to last season getting struck by Tebow lightning, and that m ay have a carry-over effect. This also a team run by a very old QB in Ben Rothlisberger. This one matchup will also be at MetLife, which gives the Giants an even bigger advantage. The numbers don't lie: Big Ben's has stopped ticking against Big Blue.
Cincinnati Bengals- The Bengals finished last season with a loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Game after making the playoffs on the final day. Personally, I don't think they have enough depth to get as far as they did last year, especially in a division with the Steelers and Ravens. Project Cincy will be a success!!!
Baltimore Ravens- The Ravens had a great season last year, going all the way to the AFC Championship Game. Eli Manning will have to by pin-point with his passes with Ed Reed out there, ready to intercept anything. I think this one will be QB duel that goes to New York.

REST OF NFC: Green Bay Packers- Although the Giants took a heart-braker in the Divisional Game the last time these two teams met, I don't think there will be any hang-over effect. They are set to meet later in the season, and Aaron Rodgers will have as much time as he needs to settle back into his groove. Let's face it: the Packers will have have another 10+ win season and win their division. there's no stopping the boys from Mr. Rodgers' Neighborhood!
San Francisco 49er's- The Niners had an impressive season in 2011 losing to the Giants in OT, 1 win shy of the Super Bowl. This game I think will have a hang-over effect with last year's heart-braker coming in California. Manning will show his prowess over Alex Smith, and the Giants take another one!

Mets Pitching Prospects

New York Mets manager Terry Collins has revealed his 2 options for the final spot in his starting rotation: reliever/starter Miguel Batista and Minor League star Matt Harvey. Batista, who has pitched in all 6 Major League divisions, has had a history in his short Mets career of filling in for for starters who can't not pitch in their spot in the rotation. Harvey, the Mets' number 2 ranked prospect, is the 23-year-old ace of the New York's AAA farm team, the Buffalo Bisons, already having a 7-4 record with a solid 3.39 ERA. The winner of this spot will start against Matt Kemp and the LA Dodgers this coming Saturday at Citi Field. Buffalo manager, Wally Backman, said that in a perfect world Harvey finishes the season in AAA. Mets fans interested in watching Harvey's potential can watch him start against the Toledo Mud Hens Monday on SNY.
Another pitching prospect in the talk for a spot in the rotation in the near future is Zach Wheeler. The young phenom the Mets traded Carlos Beltran for last season is currently with AA Binghamton, with an 8-4 record with a twinkling 2.62 ERA which many think is AAA-worthy. However, if Wheeler does make the Big League squad this year, it would most likely not be until later this season, maybe even when the rosters expand in September. Either way, Zach Wheeler will most likely be in Queens to stay by the end of 2013.

Matt Harvey

Mets manager Terry Collins has narrowed down the 5th starter's spot in the rotation to 2 people, Miguel Batista and Matt Harvey. The Mets won't need their 5th starter until Saturday because they have an off day Monday, which will allow them to go with a 4 man rotation this week. I really believe that Saturday should be and will be the start to a very long and successful career for Harvey with the Amazins. They have been waiting for him for a few years and is their #2 prospect. They anticipate that he will be an ace for them. He is already 23 years old and has been pitching very well for AAA Buffalo, going 7-4 with a 3.39 ERA this year, earning him a spot in the AAA all star game. He has been dominating AAA lately and is not learning anything pitching against minor league hitters that are far inferior to the major leaguers. Even if he struggles, Harvey needs to get experience in the majors, as he almost definitely will be in the rotation starting next season. Harvey will start Monday night for AAA Buffalo against Toledo, in a game that will be televised on SNY. Collins said that the team will have many team executives watching and if he is ready, he will be called up to start on Saturday against the Dodgers. The manager also added that while it's not in the consideration set for Zack Wheeler, who is the #1 prospect, to face Los Angeles next weekend, he very much should be on the radar next month for a promotion to the majors. "I've heard wonderful, wonderful things about him. Getting better, getting better, getting better. He's not out of the mix," Collins said about Wheeler. "I'm going to tell you something. Right now, in our organization, if you've got talent, and you show that you can get people out, your name is going to be on that list." Wheeler, who was acquired in the Carlos Beltran trade, is 8-4 with a 2.62 ERA at Double-A Binghamton this season, and he may be in line for a promotion to AAA soon. Wheeler is not as close as Harvey. I expect Harvey to start this Saturday while Wheeler is a little farther away. Either way, both of these guys are going to be aces for this Mets club for a very, very long time.

7/13/12 Recap

Last night at Yankee Stadium, New Jersey-grown phenom, Mike Trout, made is Yankee Stadium debut against New York's Hiroki Kuroda. Kuroda and Anehiem's C.J. Wilson traded 0's through 1 until an solo shot by Eric Ayabar in the 2nd. In the bottom of the inning, Mark Teixeira hit a 2-run blast to give the Bombers a 2-1 lead. It stayed this way until Trumbo hit a 3-run shot to make it 4-2 Angels. In the bottom of the 7th, the score 5-2, Tiexeira provided again with a 3-run bomb to tie the game. In the eighth, with Dwayne Wise on second, the struggling Russel Martin blooped an RBI single into right to score Wise as the Yankees take the victory 6-5, who are now 4-1 against the Angels at home this year.
In Atlanta, the Braves scored 5 runs in the first off of the Mets' Chris Young in for the injured Dillon Gee and took an early 5-0 lead. A power outage at Turner Field one inning later gave the game a 15-minute delay and the scored stayed the same until the 3rd when the Mets had a 4 spot with RBIs from Scott Hairston and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Atlanta, however, would add insurance when "Mr. Met" Chipper Jones hit a solo shot to surpass Mike Schmidt for the 2nd-most RBI all-time by a 3rd baseman as the Braves held on 7-5.

Dillon Gee

Dillon Gee will have/has had surgery today to repair a damaged artery in his right shoulder, which is also his throwing shoulder. No timetable has been set but it is likely that he will be sidelined for the rest of the season. Gee is 6-7 this year for the Mets with a 4.10 ERA in 109.2 IP. Opponents are hitting .251 against him. The Mets called up LHP Josh Edgin from AAA Buffalo to replace Dillon on the roster and Miguel Batista is expected to replace him in the rotation. Terry Collins has not ruled out calling out one of several top pitching prospects Matt Harvey. Harvey, who is, 23 was drafted by the Mets 7th overall back in the 2010 draft. The Mets feel no need to rush him to the Majors, so it is not likely that he will be called up, but it could happen. If not this year, Matt will certainly be helping out this Mets ball club in the near future.
