8/13/12 Recap

Last night, the Yankees were back at The Stadium for the first of four games against the Texas Rangers. In the top of the first, Nelson Cruz delivered with an RBI broken-bat single that brought home Elvis Andrus and make it 1-0 Rangers before Texas starter Ryan Dempster took the mound. In the 3rd, David Murphy made it 2-0 with one swing, a homer to center. When the bottom of the inning came along, the Yankees loaded the bases for Nick Swisher who got his 200th career homer with a BANG with his 6th career grand slam, and New York took a 4-2 they would never relinquish. Starter David Phelps went 5 strong innings, only allowing the 2 early runs and 7 hits. In the top of the sixth, newly-acquired Derek Lowe pitched 4 innings of relief  and got the save as the Yanks took the victory 8-2. With Swisher's grand slam, the Yankees now have 7 players with 200+ HRs tying the 2008 Yanks for the most by a single team. However, Curtis Granderson already had 197 homers.
