8/2/12 Recap

       Yesterday afternoon, the Mets looked to take their 3rd from the Giants in the finale of their 4-game series against Barry Zito. Zito retired the first two batters, but after 2 straight walks by David Wright and Scott Hairston and Daniel Murphy was hit by a pitch, Jason Bay hit a soft single into left that brought home 2 runs, and the Mets were on the board early. The next batter was Ronny Cedeno, and he doubled off the glove of Melky Cabrera and brought home another 2 runs, and after the first it was 4-0 New York. In the 2nd, David Wright hit an RBI single that scored Andres Torres and made it a 5-run margin. The Giants' only run came in the bottom of the fourth when Hunter Pence recorded his first RBI as a Giant with a sac fly that brought home Melky Cabrera and make it a 5-1 game. In the top of the fifth, Daniel Murphy brought home Torres with a single into right, and Ronny Cedeno singled home Hairston, and it was 7-1 Metropolitans. In the top of the seventh, Ronny Cedeno doubled to left that scored Hairston and Murphy. It was Cedeno's 4th and 5th RBIs of the day tying a career high as the Mets took the victory 9-1. Mets starter Chris Young snapped a 5-start losing streak, going 7 innings allowing only 1 run.
