7/21/12 Recap

       Yesterday afternoon, the Mets put on their special black jerseys in Game 2 of their series against the Dodgers. In the top of the third, with Miguel Batista pitching, Juan Uribe hit a 2-run double to make it 3-0 LA, and he would score on the next play. In the bottom of the eighth, with Scott Hairston on 1st, Daniel Murphy tripled into the left field gap and would later score on a groundout. In the ninth, with the score 6-5, R.A. Dickey came into pitch to get some work in. With a runner on, up came Juan Uribe and into the Party City Deck went Dickey's knuckleball, and it was 8-5 which was the final score. New York falls to .500 for the first time they were 13-13. In other news, Johan Santana was placed on the 15-day DL because of his ankle. For more on this story, go to Sports Blog.
       Last night, the Yankees looked for a win against the red-hot Oakland A's. The Yankees got on the board first with an RBI single by Raul Ibanez in the top of the first to score Alex Rodriguez, and it was 1-0 New York. In the bottom of the inning, Yoenis Cespedes hit a tape-measure solo shot into left, his 2nd homer in as many games, and it was 1-1. This was all the scoring until the bottom of the eighth, when Brandon Inge hit a solo shot, and it was 2-1 Oakland, the final score. The Yankees have lost three straight, and Robinson Cano's 23-game hitting streak was snapped. Meanwhile, the Athletics are now in a three-way tie for the AL's 2nd Wild Card.
