7/20/12 Recap

Last night, the Mets sent Johan Santana to the mound against the Dodgers, who he's 5-0 against in his career. With a runner on in the first, Matt Kemp did it again, going deep to make it 2-0 LA. With the  score 4-2 in the top of the third, young Luis Cruz hit his first career home run with a runner on, and it was now 6-2. Santana was taken out of in the 3rd for his shortest outing of the year. Then came the bottom of the eighth, the score 7-4, when Jordany Valdespin came up to pinch-hit with a man on, and he homered to left for his 4th pinch-hit home run of the year, and it was 7-6. However, this would be the final score as the Dodgers took the victory on Johan's blemish.
In Oakland, the Yankees took on starter Tommy Milone and the Athletics. The A's scored two runs early on, and that was all Milone would need. He went 7 scoreless innings. After a Russell Martin homer in the 8th, the score was 2-1 going into the 9th, and in the top of the ninth, Robinson Cano extended his hitting streak to 23 games with a solo blast, and it was 2-2 going into the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, with Yoenis Cespedes on 2nd, Brandon Moss came up to the plate and singled home Cespedes, and the A's won 3-2. The Yankees streak of 43 games of scoring 3 or more runs is over.
