Batista's a Believer!!!

Recently, Mets reliever Miguel Batista was asked about the his team's recent poor play, and he said  that everyone goes through a bad streak, and his team has to believe they can contend. Batista went on to say that, at their best, they are the, "best team in baseball." First of all, I want to say that when the Mets are at their best, they can compete with anyone in baseball. Also, I am absolutely loving Batista's attitude. Back in the mid-summer of 1973, the Mets were basically out of the race for the NL East. But reliever Tug McGraw was always shouting from the bench, "Ya gotta believe!" Down the stretch, the Mets played their best baseball of the year and went on to win the division and the pennant, losing the World Series to the Oakland A's. It was McGraw's consistent, positive attitude that influenced this great comeback, and I am happy that Miguel Batista has stepped up as the Tug McGraw of this Mets club!
