7/16/12 Recap

Last night, Phil Hughes took the mound for the Yankees as they opened a series with the Toronto Blue Jays. Russel Martin's solo home run and Robinson Cano's RBI double were all the scoring for New York through 7 1/2 innings as the game was tied at 2 going into the bottom of the eighth. However, it wouldn't stay like this for long as with the bases loaded in the 8th, Raul Ibanez smashed a 3-1 changeup into the second deck in right field to make the score 6-2 with 1 inning left to play. The Jays scored one in the 9th, but then Rafeal Soriano came in to get another save, and the Yanks won 6-3. Tomorrow, CC Sabathia will make his first start since going on the DL late last month.
In Mets news, Matt Harvey started against the Toledo Mud Hens on Monday in front of all of Mets Nation on SNY. New York's No. 2 prospect had a no-decision, allowing 2 earned runs through 6 2/3 innings of work as Buffalo suffered a 4-2 defeat to Toledo. Harvey allowed 4 walks with 4 strikeouts and did not allow a hit until the 6th inning. It was a strong start for Harvey, and chances are it was his last start as a Minor Leaguer as he will probably make his Major League debut Saturday against the Dodgers.
